Mud Pie The Gray

Pie is a 25yrs old senior lady. She was given to us shortly after we moved to Okeechobee. Pie was not neglected is any way by her owner, it was just her owner could no longer afford her meds or her up keep do to her age.

Pie has pituitary pars intermedia dysfunction (PPID) also known as Equine Cushings Disease. It involves the pituitary gland, which is a gland located at the base of the brain that produces hormones in response brain signals. PPID in horses can and will create laminitis which is also what Pie suffers from. Laminitis is inflammation and damage of the tissue between the hoof and the underlying coffin bone. Horses must maintain healthy hooves because it’s one of their main life lines to live. Without hooves you have no horse.

With vet care, blood work, farrier visits, and meds we have for the most part keep her disease at bay. It’s a lot of work, lots and lots of expenses, but worth it all in the end. It’s what we do here at Ricky’s Ranch. We give these senior horses a chance to live out the rest of their lives in happy retirement.

Donations from you help gives Pie the life that she deserves. Pie has given her life to the world so let’s give the world back to her.
