Here at Ricky’s Ranch in Okeechobee County, FL, we are passionate about providing a safe, loving home to senior horses who would otherwise be discarded, neglected, or worse, . Our Sanctuary is dedicated to the care and rehabilitation of neglected, abused, and abandoned senior horses, and also for the wild Mustangs we adopt from the Bureau of Land management Wild Mustang Program. We offer these horses a chance to live out their lives in comfort, surrounded by people who care. This regular feeding and care can be costly. Between specific feed and hay for seniors and Mustangs with different needs, regular farrier care, and of course, veterinary care, which seniors always need, these costs add up quickly. Since we are already taking care of 5 senior horses and 2 Burro’s, our expenses are escalating beyond our budget. And our tiny ranchette needs some TLC.
As our sanctuary grows, and with your generous help, we would need a larger property and barn, so we can give a sanctuary for even more older horses in the Okeechobee area. After talking with the county Animal Care and Control Officer, we know that there are so many neglected horses out here.
And lastly, we would also love to be able to bring hay and feed, and help with veterinary and farrier care, to people who are on a fixed income and might not always be able to feed their horses. These people don’t need to have their horses removed from their properties. They are loved and cared for. But the families might not always be able to afford feed and hay, and other needed care.

As a dedicated 501(c)(3) charity and Florida Not-For-Profit corporation, our mission is to evolve from our modest inception into the leading sanctuary for senior horses throughout South Florida. Dreamt into existence by Scott Chapman and Callie Harris of Scoop da Poo, LLC, our vision is to create a nurturing refuge on 10 to 20 ideal acres, where neglected and relinquished senior horses can flourish in their remaining years. Our plans include the development of a sanctuary with ample barn space and verdant pastures, ensuring a peaceful and loving environment for these dignified creatures.
Our commitment to the community and these majestic animals extends through our ‘hay-it-forward’ program, aiming to assist local horse owners with feed, hay, and compassionate end-of-life care with our Senior Horse Compassionate Euthanasia Assistance Program.
