Honoring Espuma: A Story of Love and Compassion at Ricky’s Ranch Senior Horse Sanctuary

Espuma

Update July 13, 2024:

Espuma was laid to rest, and crossed over the Rainbow Bridge on Thursday July 11, 2024.  she is now pain free, and can run on all for legs forever.

RIP Espuma.

At Ricky’s Ranch Senior Horse Sanctuary, every horse’s story is unique and deeply cherished. Today, we want to share the poignant journey of Espuma, a beloved resident who has touched our hearts with her resilience and grace.

Sadly, Espuma is our newest resident, but will have to be humanely euthanized very soon. Unfortunately, we currently do not have the funds needed for Espuma’s euthanasia and transport to the burial site. Your contributions will enable us to provide the care and love that every senior horse deserves. Together, we can make a difference, one horse at a time.

Please consider helping us with the costs of euthanasia and transport to the burial site.

A Battle with Illness

Espuma came to us with a major infection inside her left hoof, which tragically developed into a bone infection. Despite our dedicated efforts, weeks of intensive treatment, and unwavering hope, it has become clear that her condition is beyond healing. Horses rely on their hooves as their lifeline, and all four need to be healthy and strong for a horse to live a long and fulfilling life.

Daily Care and Tenderness

Throughout her time with us, Espuma has received the utmost care and attention. She is fed three times a day, with free choice grass hay always available. Her hoof care regimen is rigorous: every day, her hoof is unwrapped, medicated, or soaked in Epsom salts and iodine before being carefully wrapped back up. Our team has devoted themselves to making her as comfortable as possible, providing her with love and gentle care each step of the way.

Aged Wisdom and Hidden Struggles

As we cared for Espuma, we discovered that she is over 35 years old, much older than we initially believed. Her advanced age and years of neglect have taken a severe toll on her body. She has been in poor condition for far longer than we were told, and it shows in her frail body and deteriorating dental health. Despite the challenges, Espuma’s spirit remains unbroken, and she has found solace in the sanctuary’s peaceful environment.

A Compassionate Farewell

Given her age, the severity of her condition, and the persistent pain from her bone infection, we have made the heartbreaking decision to let Espuma cross the Rainbow Bridge soon. It is not a choice made lightly, but rather out of love and compassion. Espuma deserves to run pain-free in greener pastures, free from the suffering that has plagued her for so long. She has earned her right to peace and tranquility, and we are committed to honoring that.

Espuma’s Legacy

Espuma’s journey is a testament to the resilience of horses and the profound impact of compassionate care. Her story reminds us why we do what we do at Ricky’s Ranch Senior Horse Sanctuary. We strive to provide every horse with the love, respect, and dignity they deserve, regardless of their past.

As we prepare to say goodbye to Espuma, we celebrate her life and the joy she has brought to our sanctuary. Her memory will live on in our hearts and in the continued mission of Ricky’s Ranch. We are dedicated to helping as many senior horses as possible, ensuring they receive the care and compassion they need in their twilight years.

Run free soon, Espuma. You will always be a cherished part of Ricky’s Ranch.
